In MLB pitching and defense are the two keys to winning ballgames. I believe if the Tigers were to trade Mike Maroth and another prospect or two for an experienced mid to late inning reliever to shore up the bullpen and sign Barry Zito, their pitching staff would be second to none in all of baseball. Rolling Rogers, Zito, Bonderman, Verlander, and Robertson is as good as it gets. With Zumaya, Rodney, Jones, Walker, Ledezma, and Grilli coming out of the pen, the Tigers would have by far the best pitching staff in the majors. And remember, Dimitri Young and Troy Percival's contracts come off the books this season so the team will have money to spend in free agency. I say bring back Sean Casey and the rest of the everyday lineup and the Tigers are set for a run at the 2007 World Series.

The Tigers don't need Barry Zito. Their rotation is solid and young (therefore cheap) as it stands right now.
I'm an A's fan, and Barry Zito had *one* great season in 2002. He was slightly above average every other year. But his curve ball has never been as it was in 2002 and he has constantly struggled with his location.
Whoever gets Zito will overpay for him. The Tigers don't have that kind of money to waste.

Landing a good free agent pitcher is going to be very expensive this year. The Yankees will outspend everyone and land the biggest two names. Could be Zito, could be Suppan. The Chicago White Sox also need a good starter and they have some good talent to trade to get it. The Mets will be in the market to replace their aging, injured arms. The Bosox are also in need of another good starter.
The Tiger's staff will be even better next year. They made their run with three VERY inexperienced pitchers who now have a World Series under their belts. Don't forget that Maroth was throwing pretty well before his injuring this year. They could go with a five man rotation to keep Rogers fresh and avoid injuries to Verlander and Bonderman (ala Chicago Cubs with Prior and Wood).
The Tigers have no holes in thier lineup so they should just work to keep their team together and save the cash to resign their young talent when their contracts are up.
BTW, the Tigers have already traded away most of thier talent to build the team they have now. They have one hot young hitter that the Nationals tried to acquire back when Soriano was on the trading block but Dembroski said Alphonso wasn't worth it. Can't wait to see this kid come up.

the two a sort of comprise undesirable. Hampton is via a techniques worse. even nevertheless Zito does suck, badly, he does a minimum of pitch each and every 5th day and can supply the Giants some hazard at prevailing. Hampton hasn't thrown in a significant league activity when you consider that 2005...yea, he can not do a lot on the DL yet carry at the same time funds. i think of Hampton and Pavano finally end up in a similar boat, yet that may not even the worst settlement...Mine replace into...Roger Clemens. i'm sorry, yet for one million/2 a 12 months at a 28 million dollar professional rated settlement, is stupid. He went 4 - 4 with a 4 era and it replace into stupid. even nevertheless he may well be the terrific pitcher in baseball, in fact, no one is well worth 28 million funds for one million/2 a 12 months. The Yankees over pay for some gamers, yet this transformation into stupid..Did they actually think of he might come save their franchise? solid success!!

Def trade Maroth but dont go after Barry Zito..it's silly for them to waste money on a pitcher when their pitching staff is already stacked and all young except for Kenny Rogers..What they need to do is go after some hitters who hit for average and not only power..they have too many guys who just hit for power and not average (Monroe, Thames, Inge) They need a player like DeRosa on their team who is a good role player...

No, wouldn't waste their time. In actuality the tigers are still pretty solid with what they already have. Besided Zito has stated he wants to go to New York, which NY Team remains to be seen. Having said that, it wont deter all the bigger names in making a move such as boston red sox, toronto could make a move, and i can see a few NL teams such as houston make a move. I Don't think Zit owould fit in, in Detroit either

That sounds good, but i think Barry will go for the money (instead of wanting a ring) and sign with the yankees.
and contary to popular believe, The Tigers DO have the money to spend---it's just that they will spend it wisely.
For those of you that dont know, mike ilitch owns The Tigers, The Detroit Red Wings, and little caesar's pizza.
He has PLENTY of money.

As an Astros' fan, I rooted for the Tiger's during the postseason.... They should go home ashamed, and consider going down to AAA... Way too many errors, no hitting.... I freakin' HATE the Cards!!!!!!!!!!
