The actual film called the blair witch project was based old stories told years ago.
There is a real documentry around that includes the real footage.
The film is just a glorified version of a documentry that some kids were doing when they went missing about a myth called the blair witch.

The Blair Witch Project is what you called, a "Mockumentary". It was a low budget movie, and set a record for the most profitable motion picture of all time. I guess it was based on a legend that happend in the past. It's just that many scary moments happened and people were freaked out with the movie.

I actually didn't know much of the whole fake thing so I watched it and got terrified. Of course I had some questions so after going online I found out that it was fake. It's a lot more fun though if you see it without first knowing that it is fake. But since you already know now there's not much point to seeing it. But I have to admit I was believing at first while watching...

that was a hoax to get everyone in the theathers and see the movie in no way was it real or based on live events in any way and the only way to get people to see the movie is by blowing it up the way they did and to make people think it was real and actually happend..
