We all have "aliases" like email or user names or nicknames. A company might be incorporated under one name but use a different "doing business as" name or names. A woman might use her husband's last name in social relationships but use her given, legal name for business and legal purposes. The legal problem with aliases occurs when they are used to commit fraud or to hide your true identity. There are also potential problems if you sign a contract using an alias rather than your true name. If you are stopped by the police and give a false name, they may charge you with obstruction, although if there is no evidence that you are involved with a crime, there probably would be no persecution. Bottom line: you legally can call yourself anything you want but if you do it to commit a crime or perpetrate a fraud, that's illegal.

Only legal (technically) if you do not commit any crimes using them. There are numerous writers who write under aliases all the time.

Its legal as long as you claim them all as you on records, taxes, with government, etc.
If you change them to get out of such items, then yes its illegal.
Most already go by aliases but don't even realize it. For example...Michael Smith normally goes by Mike Smith....this is a change of legal name which is an aliases.

I work in radio where everyone has more than one name. But for legal stuff they all use their given name, or they go to court and legally change their given name to their favorite on-air name. I don't know of any websites. In daily life you can call yourself whatever you want but for business or civil transactions, you need to use your legal name.
