when i turn the key on i get no electrical. the battery is strong and the coil is new. the wires are new as well. i can crank the engine from the starter relay under the hood but i have to electricity to the coil and distributor. the wires look good. can it be my ignition or is it something else?? the alternator is new as well as the starter relay. i have had to replace the balast resistor or the ceramic block and the drivere fender well. when i did the truck would start from the starter relay if the key was on. but after i turned off the truck i would have no more electrial when i turned the key back on to start it. what in the world do i do?? by the way, can the voltage regulator have anything to do with this??

As best I can tell from reading your issues, I think you may be answering your own question and not realize it. You say you have no voltage when you turn the ign. switch on. Also, you said you are able to start the truck by jumping across the starter relay, which eliminates the starter switch. Put a new ignition switch in, the old one must have a bad contact inside. It sounds like you are measuring and finding no voltage at the switch, but not thinking the switch could be bad?

I'm guessing you have either a bad battery connection...Even though the cables are new or you may have a wire that has fallen near the battery that you didn't hook up.
Check the ground cable and make sure it's connected to a good ground and is tight. Turn your head lights on and start wiggling wires to see if they flicker on and off. If you do find a wire that causes this clean it and tighten it.
Also Check your fuses and the ignition switch relay.

It sounds like you burned a fusible link. There are two or three of them hooked to the large terminal of the starter. They look like wires but, they are designed to burn if amperage draws get to high. Look at the wires on your starter. If one of them is bubbly/burnt looking or is stretchy when you tug on it, it's burnt. To repair it, disconnect the battery then take the large nut off of the starter solenoid. Take the burned fuse link and cut it off behind the collar (a round plastic part on the wire). Go to the parts store and get a new one. I recommend soldering the new one on and covering it with heat shrink tubing but, you could just use a butt connector and cover that with heat shrink tubing. Tip: Take the old fuse link with you because you may have to match the wire size and the 'ring' connector.

I would check power wires from the battery you may not have power from the battery to the ignition switch .. it sounds like you have power to the alt and starter . that is why you can start your truck from there....

I would check the ign. switch, it sounds like your problem is there and no the regular would have nothing to do with it. It is a totally seperate circuit for regulating voltage from the alternator to the battery. good luck

your ignition switch is bad because it sends power to the coil and starter and so on

it is most likely your starter relay at the base of your steering columm.it's a little metal box that your rod enters into & activates the starter.

It could be your voltage regulator. You might also check all of your fuses some of those do have to do with your starter system.

I would take a meter to the ignition switch and check it.
