I believe there is life in other parts of the universe. It would be pretty arogant to believe that in a universe that goes on forever, we're the only intelligent life forms.

You are not the only beings in the universe that can ask the question "Why?". We have been visiting you for a long time. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species. Your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you and neither does your penchant to breed beyond your planet's ability to sustain you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

There was a group of scientists that got together in the early 1970s (Carl Sagan among them) to calculate the probability of life in the universe. Their results were a probability so small that one should rethink their views on the origins of life on this planet.

I'm with you.

considering the recent developments in telescopic technologies and the recent discoveries made using that technology. The odds of there NOT being life on other planets within a universe as vast as ours seems slim if not impossible.

Are they little green men? perhaps in conjunction with many other possibilities including molecular size creatures(or smaller) and possibly those that have hurtled us concerning technological advancement.

It is after all the last frontier, the universe that is ,and judging by its vast size (as compared to us) it looks like we're in for alot of amazing discoveries in the near future... life on other planets possibly being one of them.

you damn right!
i once read a book (dont ask me about the title and author i just pick it up and read it) that says lifeform consist of 3 stages, the PRIMITIVE stage which is the dinosaur stage, then INTELIGENT stage which is our current stage now, and ADVANCE which are those interstellar-travel and stuff.
now, just think of our earth as a grain of sand, the universe at its current (known) size is like the distance from the grain of sand to mars! with that vast gap in between that little sand and mars... think about it for a sec... no inteligence lifeform?
i'd bet you there are!
even when we're talking about advance lifeform, they are out there too! think of all those de javu and fast-moving-ufo ****!!
i dont think we're alone... its just the question of are we ready for them?

I agree intellegent life
proliferates througout the universe
Technological life like ours is much rarer and is probably very short lived somthing less than three to five hundred years!

of course
biologists say that it was a complete fluke that the conditions on earth were suitable enough for life to prosper.
if our earth is just one planet in this solar system which is just one solar system among millions of other ones in our Milky Way Galaxy which is just one galaxy in the whole labrynth of galaxies, in this one Universe (which scientists are now beginning to imagine is just one universe among so many other multiple universes), the probability is that there are many other planets upon which the conditions are ripe enough for, as u say it, 'little green men'.
