Indifference means that you don't care and you don't not care at the same time. That's not the opposite of love. Indifference is exactly between hate and love.

Tranquility. no longer each and every thing has an opposite or a detrimental, purely in opinion. for occasion what's the alternative of talking? no longer talking? that's no longer an opposite, that's a impartial. and what's the alternative of a circle? some will propose a sq., some a triangle, and a few a on the instant line. So what's the alternative of a on the instant line? A zig zag, a squiggle, or something that's no longer a on the instant line. it extremely is inconclusive. the sole logical opposite of love might might desire to be hate. indifference is the midsection floor. impartial.

Why is Love and Hatred so similar and yet so different. Can it not live side by side blissfully?

I noticed this Q asked withing minutes of yours. I didn't respond to it, but just in reading your Q, I would agree more that HATE, isn't strictly an opposite of LOVE nor might it be tolerable to consider that one can LOVE and HATE at the same time,,,especially as it might regard the same, other individual.
Indifference might be equated to a side effect of LOVE,,, or the thought/feeling of LOVE,,,initially, as two people become "familiar"???
Both/Each emotion, need not relate to an individual certainly, but then that smacks of levels of prejudice,,,which isn't an emotion, but a learned behavior and attitude.
Actually indifference might be a buffer for our psychie, in that it creates a zone of NON caring, and can dispell feelings, either way. I don't say that's a good thing however. Nor do I believe that HATE,,,as usually defined, is healthy.

Good Q, by the way.

Do not let these people sway you, especially that China Doll and Heinz guy. You are correct. Indifference has long been known to be the opposite of love. We take unrequited, unannounced love as our example number 1. Love is action, as is hate. So the withholding of this action is indifference; the opposite of love. Besides all these proofs, Phoebe said that very thing on an episode of " Friends ", so you know it has great validity.

I definately agree. Someone I know told me about how his parents always argued and that he knew that the real problem came when they just stopped talking to eachother. they eventually got a divorce.
Loving and hating are still showing emotion. Indifference is acting without emotion

No, I think indifference is the middle ground. You have that when you haven't even met the person. You move either toward love or hate from there.

Yes I do. Hatred is when someone has wronged you or offended you in some fundamental way (and you choose to cling and fester in it rather than to let it go.)
If you speak purely of love, as a feeling or emotion, then yes, to me the absence of love, or opposite, is indifference.

Love requires conciousness to maintain, by its nature you must hold the 'loved' one dear and in your thoughts ie efort (albeit sub-concious) is required. To trully hate, requires the same, but used negatively towards someone.
Indifference is simply not caring anymore - it is the destroyer of both Love and Hate not their opposite.

I understand and that is a good proposal, but when two or three things exist within the same arena the are not opposites but variations.
