want and need. i am so sick of bullshit politicians telling the pitiful proletariat what is good and bad, right and wrong, moral and amoral. shouldn't we look to dissolve all forms of government and just start doing what is best for us? surely, as the most intelligent and creative species on this planet, we could come up with better institutions than this.

couldn't we add to the ballot the options of "none" or "all", instead of the usual this one or any other?

i'm not really satisfied with any of the answers here. what i was looking for was an answer to the question "why not systematically destroy the institution known as politics? they don't represent the whole, and not any system ever will." neither my ilk or i vote, and therefore do not elect these wankers into the positions they occupy.
we make so many sacrifices to our daily lives for political endeavours and not because we want to, but because our "representatives" want us to. let's take the power back.

Because people are idiots! Religion and sexual orientation are used as weapons in politics. If you don't believe what I believe you are a threat. If you are for abortion, you are against life. Women of the U.S. you have no right to choice. If you are for gay or lesbian rights, you are a sinner and have no moral fiber. Marriage is between a man and a woman, what's love got to do with it? It's the religious hate-mongers of this country who are trying to legislate your rights. They are the largest group of hypocrites in the country and most of them happen to be republican, go figure. If you're that tired of it, vote against every politician who uses intolerance against his fellow Americans. The very same group of people who say only God can judge you, judge you first, and then tell you you are not fit to be a part of what they believe. Vote to keep religion and sex out of politics, I for one, do not need some religious moral jerk trying to tell me what is right or wrong. I had parents who did that job, thank you.

Watch how Bush shakes his fingers at the cameras like a scolding dad. Then he gives all the wrong advice. Remember how the rest of the politicans were led by the nose to support the war and all of Bush's other wacky ideas.
Now the panic is over and people are starting to wake up. Even American citizens have stopped to take a look. Everyone knows the jig is up. Republicans realize that incumbents need to be kicked out. Get some new officials in office and keep tabs on them.

Don't point fingers unless you have been going to your town meetings every week. It is there that deals are made, but citizens don't bother to go. Politicians have been left to their own devices too long. Go take back your government. That's the way it was set up to be. Get busy.

THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH OUR "DEMOCRACY" AS IT STANDS IS THE FACT THAT WE DO NOT HAVE A FIXED TERM FOR MPs AND SENATORS.THAT IS REALLY IT. If we did then we would have governments that move with the times. Now what we have are governments which are stuck on policies made by MPs and Senators who are all dead and gone and/or who are now entrenched in their posts as ministers of such or the other for so many years. There are no new ideas coming in. Most are still fighting the second world war. And Some are still fighting the cold war over and over again in their foggy brains. Get rid of old wood.

You sound like what we need, until you have to take from the rich and give to the poor, then where will you stand. I would bet you would not give up your lifestyle to give a homeless person a better life. The world should gather together their gains and share it according to needs of the world. We all have a heart that beets. We love our of-spring and want the best for them. Why cant we share LOVE, KINDNESS, CONSIDERATION, no we wont while we are on the up, unfortunately the poor people cant answer this question, they don't own a computer.

I'm not convinced we are the most intelligent... but never mind.
The system has become so stagnant and embedded that it becomes extremely difficult to change it. Unfortunately, I believe that a sort of Darwinian evolution has occurred in our politcal system - the kind of politicians that you (and I) loath are those who are most likely to survive in the fierce climate which they inhabit.
Having said that, the rare ones who do slip through (eg Tony Benn) are often dangerous nutters!
Sorry - bleak picture I know, but we are destined to be ruled by gits and tossers evermore.

Sometimes it is poor choices but what happens is that causes ppl not to vote and the hardcore morons end up selecting our leaders.
Also the other problem is ppl who follow a party line no matter if Satan himself is going to be elected.

Because that is politics. They will promise you what you want to get your vote and do only what they want and the wants of the big money contributers who helped get them elected.
