I have a buddy of mine who is 22 years old, probably my best friend actually. Well anyway after a while of him being down alot and depressed he seems to have been calm. He says things such as, "it doesnt matter, life is crap anyway" But he does it with a smile on his face. He is more calm and mellow now and doesnt crack jokes or anything much anymore. He seems like he has everything in order so to speak. Should I be concerned? Before he use to get upset over sad news about people dying and such but now he says things like "People die, oh well, Glad I wont be here to see it too much longer, I hope the rapture happens hehe". But he does it in this weird calm way.
I just hope he is alright, Do you guys think he has found inner peace or should I be worried?

You should be worried. Sounds like he is planning to take his life. He is only calm because he has accepted that he cannot change anything and that the world is crap to him. And the fact that he does NOT crack jokes anymore is really a big sign that something is really really wrong. When you said that he said people dies, oh well , glad i won't be here to see it...... is also a serious sign. He is suicidal. A rememeber you said he does it in this WEIRD , CALM way. I believe even you know that something is wrong. Talk to one of his close relatives and tell them what is going on. because he needs help .

I would be worried. It is possible that he has found inner peace, but he also sounds suicidal. Here are a few things to help:
Your friend can call 1-877-949-HELP, it's a confidental helpline that will let him talk to someone who is unbiased. The HelpLine is open weekdays between 4 PM and Midnight ET. see www.radiou.com for more information.
Here is a website for you to check out, it'll help you know whether to be worried or not. http://mentalhealth.samhsa.gov/publications/allpubs/walletcard/engwalletcard.asp
I hope everything turns out alright.

Glad I won't be here to see it to much longer means he plans on not being alive much longer. So that means he is planning some way to kill himself. If he starts giving things away.Like there is something of his u have always liked and he decides to give it to u.Then this does mean he is planning on killing himself. You need to really have a talk with him and tell him what u told us and your concerns about him.You might want to bring your parents into this.Good luck Or his parents would be better.Just don't do nothing because if he does try u will never beable to forgive yourself for not doing something.

I would be seriously concerned about the possibility of suicide. When someone has been severely depressed and suddenly becomes "peaceful," many times it's because they've decided to take their own life. I'm not saying this to frighten you, but simply because you need to be aware of it. He may genuinely be at peace with the world now, or he may be putting on a good act.
Other things to watch out for: has he given away personal possessions? Has he made out a will or let someone know his wishes "if" he dies? Has he actually bid farewell to friends or relatives in a way that implies he may never see them again. Has he joked about methods of committing suicide?
If you are best friends with him, perhaps he'll be open and honest with you if you gently ask him, "Are you thinking about committing suicide?" If he's in pain and desperate for help, he may surprise you and say yes. There's no guarantee of this, but if he does, then you have the green light to nudge him towards getting professional help.
I'm not a therapist or a doctor, but I've dealt with depression (mine and other people's) all my life. I lost someone important to me by suicide because his family didn't take him seriously and try to intervene. He'd joked and talked about offing himself, but no one acted to help him.
God bless you and your friend. . .I'll be praying for both of you.

No that is not normal mental health. It sounds like he is just passing time until he may do something harmful to himself. Depression is a very curious disease and not one to underestimate. Be cautious with him but try to get him to seek professional help. If you are truly his friend you will help him.
