Reverse psychology. You say no, they hear yes...

IF the fellow wont accept a NO, then try a knee in the groin - that will definitely educate him on what the word NO means.

If its a 4 year old who has a tantrum every time you say No, you cant do much except wait out the tantrum and then tell the kid he/she cannot ever have whatever they wanted that you said No to. Thats what I have to do.

Because it's telling someone that they can't have their way or what they want. Depending on the person's ego, age, mental stability, position in society, etc. etc. some people have a hard time accepting "NO" as an answer to their desires, wants or whims.

In some cases it should be clearly accepted, as in the case of a sexual advance. In other cases, it need not be.

Such may be the case with those who do marketing, or the poor who beg, or those who fundraise....eventually they will stumble on a "Yes" so it will have been well worth it in that case.

Because of denial.

People want to hear things in agreement of what they want. I'll use the old example of asking someone out. You want them to say yes, but they say no. Then you just can't believe why not, you don't want it to be true... and you just can't understand why such an answer was given.

Telling someone no usually hurts them in some way (if they were looking for the answer to be yes), which is another thing that people avoid involuntarily. By doing so, they tell themselves that it's not true to lessen the pain.

I don't think the word itself is hard to understand, but it is the context of the word that people have most difficulty with; especially if you want to hear yes and get what you want.

It's only difficult to understand if you want to hear "Yes" instead.

Really!
I 'no' what you mean!
Some people just do not understand the word 'no'...
Especially over the phone sales people!
Thats why I don't own a home phone!

It isn't as much a matter of understanding as it is the refusal to bend ones will to the dictate of another person even if that person is one of authority. We all have choice to conform or not to conform even if it results in our own detriment.

I guess you are having unwelcome advances from a male who's little head is ruling his big head !!!!

its not the act that is desired - more the end result - if you can satisfy this in another fashion (BJ etc) you will soon be free from his advances
