Because that's when your part of the earth is turned towards the sun. The sun shines on one half of the planet at a time, which is why if it's daytime in your part of the world, it's nighttime on the other side of the world.

The earth rotates everyday. It takes about 24 hours to do this. When the side of the earth that you live on is facing the sun it's day time. When the side of the earth your on isn't facing the sun it's night time

There is nothing between the Sun and Earth except once in a blue moon the Moon comes between and there is an eclipse of the Sun. It could be cloudy but I don't think you are talking about that, right.
