Isn’t this Hockeytown? I have seen a couple of games on TV and saw nothing but empty seats. Don’t talk to me about baseball either, because my question is IS This Hockeytown? If you want to change it to baseballville feel free.

Come on! This is the Presidents’ Trophy Team, finishing first over all last year. If Winnipeg or Quebec City did that, you can’t get season tickets the next year because they would be sold out.People will feel cheated in the playoffs and see the potential for the next year and rush out to get tickets. What Detroit looks like from here is admitting they don’t have a chance this year.

Why aren’t there fans at the game? We have been lead to believe that stupid NHL decisions we have to put up with are to make the marketing stronger for you. And even what should be strong markets look like hockey in Florida?

Oh, and don’t bother to answer if you are from Chicago either. You are another embarrassment to the original six.

Gio: That is my point. Cities that have had teams taken away are more deserving.

I'm a die hard Wings fans and I get ticked every time I see the crowd shots. Almost all the games are sold out, you sure can't get seats on ice level but when you watch the game the seats are empty. But watch closely, the ice level seats are empty until about the end of the first period then they are full and then in the third period they slowly start emptying out and by time there is 5 minutes left in the third period the ice level seats are empty again. Doesn't matter if the game is good, bad, boring, exciting, they leave. I don't know how they can call themselves fans. If I had ice level seats for the Wings I would be there the second the doors opened and would not leave until the zamboni was done cleaning the ice for the evening. Hockeytown my foot. They should b ashamed of themselves.
They are selling the tickets, that's not the problem. The problem is the fans. They have the tickets but don't go. It must be nice to be able to pay that much for tickets and not use them!

i do not think that detroit is an embarrassment to the original six. they are still a good team even without shanny and yzerman. you are wrong about the crowd in hockeytown usa. the seats are usually filled to capacity no matter how bad they play in the playoffs. detroit had a special treat this october when the tigers were in the world series. if your baseball team made the playoffs for the first time in a long time would you go see them or would you go see the wings? there are 82 games to be played in a regular season and a good majority of them are sold out in detroit. it is not a matter of baseball ruling the city of detroit becuz the wings rule motown. a lot of hockeytown fans pin their hopes on a stanley cup each year and are disappointed by first round losses but no team can win every year. detroit does not give up the hope of winning another cup. they have a few issuses such as goaltending, lower offensive numbers, lack of powerplay goals and too many penalities. all those issues can be worked out by getting the team to play as a unit . i don not think this team is a top team this season but rather an average team. don't get me wrong but,as a fan of detroit, i'm grateful for them making the playoffs no matter what they do. as far as the marketing they lost a lot of money due to the lockout. the marketing of the nhl is not very good. they are not america's top three sports. however you are entitled to think whatever you want about this team and i respect that. i agree with you about the blackhawks which are an embarrassment to the original six.

Ummm.....Winnipeg? Quebec?? Dude, how long has it been since you've watched an NHL game??? Those teams have been in Phoenix and Denver (respectively) for over a decade...

I live in New England and don't get any premium channels, so I can't get anything other than Bruins feed at Banknorth Garden, and therefore don't feel I'm qualified to comment about the foibles of Detroit fans. However, you couldn't possibly expect people to show up to Tigers games in June if the Wings made it to the Cup finals, now could you? Give them a break.

Your line of reasoning suggests that hockey fans like only hockey and baseball fans like only baseball. It's been my experience that any true fan likes and supports the teams in their city, much like high school. There are many examples of exceptions to that rule and I am one of them. Win or lose, I am an Eagles and Flyers fan. Win or lose, I am NOT a Phillies or 76ers fan. I'll criticize them all as harshly as I see fit. This year, I'm giving them "the business" and that is because I care. The Red Wings will fill the arena, the season is a long one and you should pay tribute to the Tigers. It isn't every year a team makes it to the championship round.

i became raised in Detroit, Michigan on the West component via Grand Rivers street and all they do is play hockey, even in easy colleges they're taking part in hockey in well-being midsection type or some might call it PE, center comparable way, severe college for particular. i be attentive to they have not gained as many titles as different communities in different cities yet they're nonetheless the Detroit pink Wings and an outstanding Hockey team and that i'm no longer purely asserting it using fact i became raised up there, you're able to desire to be there to be certain what I observed after which you will understand they seem to be a Hockey city, using fact in case you flow up there and tell them you do unlike Hockey it extremely is a humorous tale to them. each and every physique up there watches it.

most people in Detroit are out of money cause of the big season the Detroit Tigers have been through. that's why. every one is sad in Detroit and spent all there money and time on the Tigers. at this time of year the people in Detroit could only go see the Wings play cause the Tigers and Lions were always in last place except this year for the Tigers.

You want someone to blame? point to bettman, he caved in from the owners, who squeezed him to drop espn coverage for more money from comcast, who charge for all coverage.

you don't get to even SEE hockey on espn anymore. Out of sight, out of mind as far as the fan dollar goes.
I bet many people don't even KNOW hockey has started this year.
