It's not. It's slightly oblong but barely. In fact the difference is so small you can't see it with the naked eye. It LOOKS round.

The Earth isn't exactly spherical, it is fatter around the equator.

The Earth is round because a billion years of gravity pulls down on every point on the surface of the Earth; If there were a significant "lump" in the Earth, gravity would pull it down into a "gully". Gravity pulls everything down until it cannot flow to an even lower place, in 3D this is a sphere.

What about mountains and valleys? Those are insignificant, like the scratches on a bowling ball.

The Earth is fatter around the middle due to Centrifugal Tendancy (Not Force!) which counteracts gravity, and allows the land (& water) to move out a bit

Because of it's rotation. And gravitation.

To a first-order approximation the Earth is round. This is due to gravity. Gravity pulls with equal strength in all directions; therefore any variations from a spherical shape will lead to gravitational forces that bring the shape back into that of a sphere.

This is without considering the rotation of the earth, however. The rotation of the earth adds centrifugal effects, which cause the earth to bulge slightly at its equator and flatten slightly at its poles. (This is like twirling a rock on the end of a string and then letting go--the rock flies away from the twirler.) Because of these centrifugal effects, the distance from the center of the earth to the surface of the earth is about 0.33% shorter at the poles compared to the equator.

Pure and simple -- the earth is round because God made the earth round. This is the easier question ever.

There isnt any reason i know of on why the Earth is round. But it is definitely a geoid and not a sphere and thus is not entirely round.

If u find the ans to this qn, maybe that's also the reason why eggs are generally 'round' shaped.

Because of rotation.
