I live in California so in highschool I was prepped for California universities and state colleges. However, I'm trying to go to school in Indianna, Illinois, or in Portland, Oregon. In California, for example, D's don't count toward your cumulitave GPA when applying, is it the same in other states? I also took alot of prep classes (for dummies) so my freshman year math and english don't count for California... but will they count in these other states? Is there a website or something I can look at?

Every college or university will have its own way of doing things. Unlike the UC's and Cal States, most colleges and universities do look at freshman year grades and courses (some don't however). An important point to keep in mind, however, is that all schools are also interested in seeing improvement! So, if your high school grades got off to a rough start, but then improved in 10th and 11th grade, that will be taken into account, and not rule you out of the game.

The best place to find information about specific admissions requirements is the schools themselves. This will take a little research on your part, but it shouldn't take long. You didn't specify which schools in those states you're interested in, but what you need to do is go to each school's website, then find the admissions section. Look for "admissions standards" or "admissions requirements" and see what they say.

To get you started, here is the link to the admissions requirements for Indiana University - Bloomington: http://www.indiana.edu/~iuadmit/freshmen/as_standards.shtml
Good luck!

Just look at the universities you're interested in. I know the Illinois public universities all have the same basic requirements. Ds are included in your GPA in Illinois. Every class is included in your GPA and is credited.
This is from University of Illinois at Chicago and it gives the general Illinois requirements http://uic.askadmissions.net/uic/aeresults.aspx?Quser=requirements&submit=Ask
