I used to hate it, but I clean with pine-sol or the lemon one. It smells so fresh after I clean.

A good dehumidifier is a holy cure-all when it comes to household odors! Most stenches are vapor-based and come from (moist) things that are either rotting, moldy or deteriorating. A high-powered multi-stage air cleaner works in any case, where it removes pollutants, germs, pet hair and even viruses, via an air filter, carbon filter, U-V lamp and in some cases, ionization. While air cleaners are much better, you'll be weighed down by the initial cost of the unit (anywhere from $200-$800) and the hassle of maintaining filters, replacing lamps and whatnot, which can also be expensive. Febreeze and candles are virtually useless for odor removal; one only eliminates the smell in the air (and not the source) and the other just masks the smell. Don't use them any more!

Sunshine and fresh air, but that probably isn't the answer you are looking for, so what odor or odors do you want to get rid of? A clean house has smells but it doesn't smell. In other words if you fry something it will smell but if you clean the kitchen the smell goes away. If you do want to remove and not cover up stay with natural type stuff or the new things like Oust, there are other brands, products for pet odor are great, they are clean smelling at first but then there is no smell. Charcoal and baking soda are great. Vinegar can be set around the house in dishes or you can clean with it- vinegar kills germs just like bleach. I spend extra money ($9-$13) for a good furnace/ac filter, it works just like the expensive air filters on TV (okay not as well since it doesn't run 24 hours but it helps) it removes particles from the air so you need to dust less and of course the air is cleaner and smells better or doesn't smell I'm not sure about that. {when buying a filter look for the MERV rating, sorry I don't remember what MERV stands for but the higher the rating the better I think it goes to 13, some of these also have baking soda in them}. I hope there is something in this that helps you. : - }

My mom would always do this and I found it helped. Try putting a bowl of vinegar in each room every once in a while. It some how gets rid of odors and doesn't make the room smell like vinegar forever. (You may notice a slight smell at first but it will disappear and won't be like WHOA who spilled vinegar). This in addition to opening you windows every now and then should take care of it. You have to also remeber that when you opoen your windows to make sure doors are open in bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. That way the air can circulate making it more effective.

Purchase the scented rocks and the scented oils to go with them. 2 ozs. of oil poured over the rocks will last about 4-6 weeks.

For carpets , fridge,cat litter boxes ,etc , try good old baking soda. Just sprinkle on carpet, and vacuum up. There are store bought scented versions at your grocery store also.
