Is he important, where did he come from? Whats he got to do with desmond?

His name is Paulo. This is the first episode where we have met him. He may have been observing the other survivors and we have now just met him.

wel i think he's jsut a random backroudn chacter.. and they needed some one to be palying golf so he could get the gulf club and make that lighting poll thing..
i think the writer is trying to shwo desmind ahs some sort of furiture theing.. casue he knew about the roof, and the lighting, adn the speech:-o
but any wya.. he's prob jsut an extra.. but he might be some one the writer is trying to make mreo importent.. but i don't think so
