My daughter's tub drain is slow to drain. I know how to plunge a toilet, and to undo the J-bend under a sink to get those things flowing again, but how to I get the gunk out of a tub drain. There's no access to the pipe and I can't poke any pliers through the top.

put some water in the floor of the shower and use the plunger. Just don't tell your daughter or she won't shower anymore

Liquid type drain chemicals all contain lye, and will corrode the pipes. Try a few gallons of boiling water, then add one cup baking soda down the drain, followed by 2 cups regular vinegar. This sets up a reaction that helps dissolve hair and soap gunk. Follow with one more gallon of boiling water. If that doesn't help, it's time to call a rooter service. Chemical cleaners are almost always a waste of money.

If the tub has a trip lever to shut off the drain so you can fill the tub with water, then that's your access. It usually is held on by two screws. Remove those and then lift slightly out and upward. You will pull out a long thin wire that has the actual stopper on the end of it. This is what gets clogged most times. Good luck.

try a liquid drain cleaner.if not snake it.if none of these things work, the only thing left is getting to the trap.depending on how old the house is.if there is a closet on the back wall you can cut thyrough the sheetrock,or if there is a room below it.about the only way you could not get tp it is if it is set in cement.

you could try a plumber's "snake" if it is really bad....you can find them at Walmart or your local hardware store.....usually, using the plunger works pretty well for me....I "shed" like crazy and have to clean my drains very often....otherwise, you could try a long pair of tweezers that will fit down into the drain.....you could also try pouring backing soda down the drain and then vinegar on top of it....if will "fizz" the clog away...seems to work better than things like drano sometimes....good luck

Try Drano or some similar product before major plumbing repairs.

pour LIQUID SOSA and leave it for a while, then fill the rub with water, then drain.

this time, its very much faster to drain --- it disolves all the hair
