Ryanmaley,
What an honor you bestow to us from across the pond!
The subject matter about America could be about the fact that ANYONE can emigrate from ANY country and become personally successful in whatever peaceful endeavor that they can imagine! Creating a business venture, become politically active without the fear of losing their life, attend university at will and pursue the spiritual freedom that they could not do in their own country.
America is the land of opportunity for everyone who so desires it. All you have to do is dream it, work it, live it.
99 3/4 % of us wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the zeal for people to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of property and happiness for billions of immigrants.

This will be an interesting "talk". There are many things you can talk about using the United States as your topic. Most interesting? This depends on who you are talking to. I may make it more interesting by using a comparative type of discussion. Health Care in the U.S. compared to the UK. Versing the U.S to the UK in crime, education, political views, cost of living, and the list could go on and on. I've been to the UK. I loved it. I want to go back. The United States has its flaws, just as any other country. I suppose the greatest part of being an American is that you have complete freedom. But the UK does too, don't you?

I think an interesting topic would be to compare our Congress(House of Representatives and Senate) with your House of Commons or Parliament. Like, does the U.K. have two legislative branches of government like here in the U.S.? Another point might be how your Prime Minister, Mr. Blair, shows up and fields questions from the representitives of various districts while we only get Vice President Cheney to preside over our Senate.
And a most amazing point, how your government is not dominted by only two political parties, but has several: Labour, Liberal, Conservative, Torries, etc. How fascinating. Compare and contrast with the U.S. two party political monopoly.

Green Star makes a very good point. You could talk about anything from Watergate to the Mt. Rushmore. But the storey I like about America is how we can be anything that we want to be. Do a speech about Federal Express CEO and how he developed his company. When he wrote his college thesis and his Professor gave him a F as his grade. Write to FedEx in Memphis, Tn and here the rest of the storey

Some great answers already, but to add to what is already here: differences linguistically. Our accents and our word choices: you live in "flats", we live in "apartments"; you put "petro" in your car, we put in "gas(oline)". We use an "elevator" - you call it a "Lift". We check under the "hood" of our cars, whereas the Brits would say check under the "Bonnet".
You can combine what all the others have said plus this and you'd have a great speech. You could also talk about the great people/actors/musicians that have come from both our countries and hit it big in the other's country - Eric Clapton/the Beatles to the US, Elvis to Great Britain.

My vote would be to focus on the single greatest difference between the U.S. and the U.K.: the geology.
America has a far greater range of climates and topography than the U.K. does; I'd hope that your audience would find photos of such places as the Florida Keys, the Alaskan Highway, the Rocky Mountains or the Painted Desert to be interesting!

The amazing mixture of people would be a good subject. I lived in Korea for some time, and basically there were two kinds of people, Koreans and me. One day I found myself riding in a van with two Koreans, one Indian and one American--me. I said this is like my country. Different kinds of people.
I worked in a Pizza Hut once near Washington, DC. The employees all had to use English because we spoke eleven different languages.

i think you should definitely include the university system in America. I think it is the best system in the world. The emphasis that US gives on research is really great. I wish many other countries start emulating this.

What would be interesting for you?
We take it for granted here. We probably dont appreciate what we have and dont think about every day things as much as someone outside the US would.
