For me it depends on if I can afford to give this person money. It also depends on if they are truly needy or just looking for another drink. If someone is playing a guitar or doing something to earn money I will really try to give them something. I have offered when someone has asked money for food to take them for a meal which if they are telling the truth and they are indeed hungry they are happy and I don't mind paying more. There are too many hungry people in the world and it is very sad.

The people who work on the streets trying to help the homeless advise not to give any money to them. There are a couple of issues here. One is that they should be directed to shelters that will feed them and provide assistance. Two is that any cash they receive will mostly be used for alcohol or drugs. Making their lives more miserable and providing no hope to cure their problem.

Also, if you've noticed lately there are several scammers working the streets. Easy money to support their drug habit.

Find out where the shelters are in your city and tell the panhandlers to go there for help.

Sometimes i give, if i can and i don't mind, sometimes i don't. I always think it's up to you if you want to give and their prerogative what they do with it. Like that song 'underwear goes inside the pants' where the guy doesn't give change to the beggar because he thinks he'll only spend it on drink and drugs, then he thinks that's what I'm going to do! So i think it just depends on how i feel that second in time.

it depends...if they are old or appear mentally ill, i would give them what they asked for if I had it.
Because I feel obligated to help care for these whenever I can.

If they just look lazy, forget it ... we got so many homeless shelters and programs for needy people here, there is no excuse for able- bodied people to sponge off of everyone else

Usually I tell them I have no money which is true. I use debit everywhere I go. If I am driving and see them on a corner I will go to a drive thru and get them something to eat so I know my money didnt go for beer or cigs.

I always ask if they will use the money to further the works of the Lord. They always say yes and I tell them too bad, I don't support spreading the disease of religion and walk away.
