Amazing. Empowering.
I felt like I could lift buildings afterwards.
All three unmedicated (one hospital with doc, one freestanding birthcenter waterbirth with midwife, one homewaterbirth with midwife).
The first one (longest - 18 hours) was exhausing.
Early part of labor with him was a little stressful as our doc wasn't on call and we ended up firing the on call doc who was a jerk. Things were fine after we got rid of him and got a different caregiver to attend us.
The shortest one (4 hours) was over so fast that it was hard to believe I had another baby already.
Some discomfort/pain, but it never lasted long or was more than I could handle. The shortest one did require a lot of focus on my part since the contractions and pressure were intense.
My home waterbirth (about 6 hours) was relaxing and romantic. Hubby caught her and handed her to me and announced the sex. Midwives made up our sofabed and the three of us relaxed and cuddled in front of a roaring fire.
Don't let people fill your head with horror stories and fear. Educate yourself about childbirth and prepare yourself with lots of coping methods. Make sure you are well supported by your caregiver, husband, doula, etc. If you go to the hospital and don't "click" with your nurse, don't hesitate to talk to the charge nurse and ask for a different nurse.

Both of my births were fantastic. I had one in a hospital, without any drugs or interventions, and it was nice. Pushing was HARD and lasted 3.5 hours. My baby was born healthy and the experience was wonderful but I didn't like being in the hospital for 24 hours afterward.
My second baby was born at a freestanding birth center, no drugs or interventions. There isn't even a word good enough to describe it. Wonderful, blissful, beautiful. My labor was long and hard because he was facing the wrong way. I pushed for less than 20 minutes and caught my own baby. There is absolutely nothing in this world that compares to catching your own baby and pulling him to your chest. Everything about that birth was just perfect. I left the birth center 2.5 hours after my baby was born. I can't say enough good things about the experience.
It's very sad that not every woman experience the joy of natural childbirth.

I have to admit that there are parts to childbirth we would all love to forget....such as the pain, the fact it feels like half the hospital staff sees your goodies, the length of time you wait there waiting for your baby to make it's way into the world, and having to use a bedpan...blaaaah.
But there is no feeling on this earth of giving that last push and seeing your son or daughter for the first time. It's a feeling that is so joyful, no words can do it justice.

well I had an epidural with both of my girls. The first was 49 hours of labor, and the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck, so not good, and the second was great everything went perfect and was only 23 hours of labor. Both were 6lb 8oz. and 20 inches long. I am now 27 weeks pregnant with a boy and am waiting to see how this goes. hopefully a 12 hour labor and no problems.

First baby was awesome. I went out running and then showered, went shopping.. Got home from shopping and started to take off my clothes and I realized I was having a baby. By the time I got to the hospital the woman RAN pushin my wheel chair.. The doctor didn't even have time to get out of his street clothes, he had to just go wash up and threw on something over his clothes and then I had a baby within 10 minutes of showing up at the hospital. It was pretty nice..
Baby number two was a little different I started going into labor they tried to stop it and everything because I was only 5 months pregnant, i gave birth to her aug. 11th of this year and she will be coming home from the hospital soon so everything still turned out alright.. It was scarey!!!!

ok well All 3 of mine were great...
I had NO DRUGS... My 1st was fast... I was at the hosp. for 3 hrs then she was born. My water broke and she was born 10 mins later
MY 2 I was there 8 hrs... They broke my water @ 4cm and he was born 20 mins later.
My 3 I was for maybe an hr.... I did the bath and that was the best thing ever.... I got there and I was 5 cm.. Took at 15 min bath and was now at 10. Water broke and she was here in less than 10 mins.. My dr was not even there yet.. That was the hard part.. trying not to push when I had to so BAD...
So I was lucky and all fast and very easy births..

Mine were great. I HAD DRUGS with mine. I ended up with a c-section with them but if I didn't have the c-sections I would have still had the drugs. I remembered every bit of the labor and childbirth. There is nothing like seeing my baby for the first time. It was magical.
I was lucky. My kids came out kicking and screaming. They were perfect with perfect big fat heads. (hence the c-section)

Well i had three. My 1st was ten hours. To help with the pain i spent my time at hhome in the shower. It really worked for me. I bared what pain i could at home. no pain meds with this one. My second my water broke at home so i went to the hospital. That was only 6 hours but harder. I took knewbane and it worked wonders. It made me so relaxed i went from 3 to 10 cent in one hour or so. with my third i try to stay at home as long as i could. It really helps being at home as long as you can because your so much more relaxed. I got to the hosp at 3 cent and wanted knewbane right away. I went from three to ten in about 45 min. Water was a big help in all the births. it made me relax.

I had a good experience. I had a lot of people telling me that I would want to have drugs, but I knew that I wanted to have a natural child birth. It did hurt but not as bad as I thought and it was the most beautiful experience I have ever had.

mine actually weren't that bad. my first baby(my girl) i went in with slight contractions(she was two weeks overdue). from the time they got me into the bed with all the wires , to the time of birth, was 20 mins. no lie. she came so fast that i had no time for medicine. and for my second(my son) was quick also. i was near my date, so they say walking is the best thing to get things going. so i decided to go to the mall for a while. after about an hour or so, i started to feel some slight contractions. no big deal at all. but since i was so close to my date, i figured i'd go in to get them checked. when they checked the contractions, they found out i was 8 cm dialated!! 8cm!! they couldn't believe that i was walking the mall at 8cm..needless to say they admitted me right away. all the poking caused me to go into full labor, and my son was born in 15 mins. so , my dr. said next time i feel a contraction, i need to get to the hospital, since my kids come out so fast!!
