I don't believe anyone besides Najina gave you an answer out of the choices you gave, PSP, PS2, or Xbox.

Out of those, I would go with a PS2 because it has a variety of games which many of which are great. Now that the system has been out for a while, the games will be pretty cheap.

PSP Games are not all that fun, but if you want a portable media device, just buy a large memory stick as well and it would be good.

Personally I don't think there are many good games on the Xbox, besides the Halos and a few others.

In order to best choose, just think what all games you want to play, and which system has most of them? If I thought about it, the PS2 would be my choice.

Although a PS2 has a great back catalouge it isnt really futureproof seeing as the replacement will be out shortly. All be it at a HUGE price difference. Who really wants to be paying so much for a games console thats relying on a movie format to sell ?

Psp's are awesome if your willing to downgrade the firmware and play homebrew on it. If not then your going to be paying quite a bit for a less superior game that you can probably get on the ps2.

The xbox is good but if you can get some extra cash go for the xbox 360. Futureproof for at least another 4+ years. Lots of games comming out this holiday season. And a not bad back catalouge building. + The prices are just starting to drop for the release titles meaning you can get quite a few good games. I wouldnt get a old Xbox unless you dont mind having out dated hardware.

Ultimatley id look at what my fav games are or what games sound intresting and see what consoles they belong on. Then pick 1 up.

the guy above me has excellent points, and i'm glad he also pointed out how people answered with options that were not given.

with the xbox 360 out, i haven't seen too many new xbox games, unfortunately

the psp doesn't seem to have that many games, and the ones it does have are ports from ps2 games.

the ps2 has a new model, a redesign, that costs 129.99. a refurbished used system costs 99.99, and generally does quite well

the library of ps2 games is not only extensive, but has some great quality titles, and it can play all your favorite playstation games on it as well. also, even though the ps3 is coming out, they are still going to make games on the ps2 for a while now - and even when they stop, there are STILL so many games for the ps2 in circulation as stands

in light of the fact that the nintendo DS wasn't an option, i would definately recommend the choice of a ps2
