Sunni believe that mut'a (temporary marriage) was permitted by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during his lifetime. However, he prohibited it at the end of his life. However....

To understand mut'a, one must understand that marriage is a form of a contract and certain stipulations can be put into that contract as long as it is legitimate. You can make conditions for "after the fact" of the marriage.

To sum it all up: Mut'a is like "renting a wife" for a time period. There is no divorce; both parties separate after the stipulated period and condition is over.

So yes, temporary marriage is legal in Islam.

I am a Muslim male. I don't exactly know your meaning of temporary marriage, but guessing the meaning if it is about the 2 couples agree that they are going to be married for a specific period of time or under a specific condition that if became unavailable at certain time then the answer would be YES, Islam rejects this. And this is very important specially to female because this saves female rights in marriage, otherwise men would marry and divorce each day and another which is something any religion would reject.

There is no such thing called 'temporary marriage' in Islam. There are certain groups from Lebanon claiming that temporary marriage is allowed in Islam, just a s Osama Bin Laden is trying to hijack Islam and creating terrorism, so don't get carried away.

Muslim men don't call it an affair. they say they are faithful to there multiple wives. But when you are away for an extended period of time they can take on a temporary wive and have sex but she gets none of the benefits of a real wife. Kind of like an affair but only he gets to engage in it. So when American men have affairs they have a temporary wife. To go with the other multiple wives. Why do they bother to get married in the first place.
