To small to be rats. More like giant mice, about 6" long with tails longer they they are, thin bodys , med brown fur and I only see them in the shed rafters during the day, never at night. Any idea what they are?

Easy ladies, the dok is back in town....what ya got there is the rattus rattus (no joke) the roof rat, the ones with great tails. nicer looking then your average norway rat. thinner, more agile and fast. unlike their sewer loving cousins, the roof rat likes to climb and would always choose a warm attic to a cold sewer. they live on fruits, nuts and berries. they won't chew holes in the wall and seldom do any damage except from leaving droppings and urine.

I don't like the way either of them look. I'm not sure why that is. Probably just because they are varmints and I think they should be nasty, I'm not sure. But my 3 cats enjoy playing with the mice that come into our home. They toss them around into the air as if playing games with them. As far as rats go, the only ones I would care to see, would be the trained lab rats and even then, I don't think I would want to get too attached to them. :o)

Baby rats if they are smaller....... just a wild guess. Do you know you are never more than 6ft away from a rat ever?
The UK as I am sure the USA has a rat plague.
