You wouldn't want to change anything in the past because it would result in a paradox and that would be you might not even exist....and if you didn't exist, you couldn't have invented the time machine. Even the slightest minor change in what has happened in the past would have far-reaching effects. Say for example, your parents met during the VietNam War, but you went back and changed something which meant the war was never fought or ended sooner. They wouldn't have met. You wouldn't have been born. Therefore, you couldn't have invented the time machine because you didn't exist!
The future is however fluid and hasn't happened yet, so it would be impossible to change. If you were able to go forward into the future, no matter where you went it would be the past to someone further up the time line, so you couldn't change that either.
Time travel - as far as being able to change things - is a no-win situation. If it were to ever be perfected, it would have to be tightly controlled so people could only go observe - never change anything.

I'd go forward to 11:00 tonight and see what the winning lottery numbers are, as long as I can get back in time to buy a ticket.

read Timeline by Michael Crichton. he has an interesting concept for a time machine. imagine if people were converted into data, you could send the data version of you through time and space. kewlness. i'd go back to when my grandparents were alive. they died too soon. i don't want to see the future, i want to create my own. and I don't want to cheat on all the challenges & opportunities that I have. that would be like a code for 10000 points on yahoo answers. :)

Actually if I could meet my man earlier in life then that could change the rest of everything, so that would be the only thing I would need to change.

back in time i wouldn't change anything because its happened and it would be very tricky to alter. now in the future i would change the way people think. insted of anger decite and evil, make it better. love, joy, peace, patience, self control, kindness, goodness, and meekness.
