I am neither for nor against. What I am against is people buying a gas guzzling vehicle without need for it. If you live in remote areas and have a family to transport, an SUV is the best thing for you. If you live in the city with plowed streets and limited space there is no need to drive the biggest vehicle on the road. You not only guzzle gallons trying to find a big enough parking space, you increase the amount of emissions, use valuable space and for what? SUV's have been proven to be less safe than a car, with higher roll over rates, more costly repairs (which drives up insurance rates) and do more damage to fellow humans when striking other vehicles.

I am anti suv when it comes to every day use. I mean, come on! Unless you have a bunch of kids, or unless you use the vehicle as a WORKING vehicle...to haul stuff in on a regular basis...what's the frigging point? They take up so much gas, and it seems that the majority of folks of drive them feel like they can just mow you down if you seem to be in their way. I just don't understand the need for them. Bigger is not always better!

I'm anti-SUV. In the late 70's congress passed legislation that required auto manufacturers to increase the fuel efficiency of their vehicles. Auto manufacturers ask for an exemption for trucks and SUV's because they weren't very popular and it would be too difficult. Well they got their exemption. Then auto manufacturers put nearly all of their advertising budgets into these vehicles, claiming that they were safer, etc. It just so happens that most car companies are also owned by oil companies. Does anyone see a trend? SUV's use more gas, they make it unsafe for other drivers, and they cause accidents because they are difficult to see around when they are parked near a corner. SUV's are popular because car companies told us we'd be cooler and feel more powerful if we had one. Now, we're at war for cheap oil. I hope that SUV owners can see the connection between the pain they feel at the loss of a loved one in the military and their desire for cheap gas at the gas station.

I don't see any real purpose for them. Usually the only off road use they see is accidentally backing through the flower bed at the end of the driveway.
I really can't complain much about their lack of gas mileage since I drive a 4 wheel drive truck.
I think it's just a fad, like mini vans were in the late 80's and early 90's.

I'm pro not being crushed like an ant when another car hits me, being able to breathe the air, having more than one person ride in a vehicle at one time, and not rolling off the interstate to a horrible death :)

If you have a big family you probably need one. But, for the most part, they are driven by singles or couple with no children and all they do is make it impossible to see past them when you are backing out of a parking space or make you wait two hours at the pump while they are filling their tanks!
