He was the first african american baseball player in history, and every one from the other teams were mean to him and yelled racial slurs at him, until they finally realized it was wrong. In other words, Jackie Robinson set the stage for all the African American players today

Changing the status of players of African-decent is the most obvious change that is attributable to Jackie Robinson. He also changed the way baseball was played. Before Jackie Robinson joined the Dodgers, baseball was played station-to-station; speed was base running speed was of little importance. When Jackie came to the majors, he stole bases, often took the extra base on a hit by himself or a team mate; he also disrupted the rhythm of the pitcher and catcher. He basically stirred things up in a way that had not happened since before Babe Ruth. He changed the way National League baseball was played and it took several years for the American League teams to catch on.

Jackie Robinson like many other African Americans of his time shouldered a load that most would crack under in a heartbeat, he not only changed baseball forever he helped open the door for people of color in the US to achieve their dreams when all they asked for was an equal playing field. I classify Jackie along with many like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, the Tuskeegee Airmen and others who endured insult, humiliations , injury and even paid with their lives in the struggle for equality in this country.

jackie is my hero. what he went through was more than any other baseball player has ever had to go through. aside from the prejudice jesse owens faced in the '36 olympics, no athelete has had that kind of spotlight on them merely of their race or ethnicity. he wasn't welcomed well by white players in the '40's or the fans or many of the other owners. he was one hell of man to deal with all that. he could have turned it down. most men could not have handled the scrutiny that jackie faced. branch rickey was an amazing man for realizing that baseball was missing something. and that something has changed the face of baseball and all other sports since. alot of people always mention athletes choking in big game situations, ie, this years tigers in the world series. every game jackie played he was in that situation..........and he suceded and he's in the hall of fame. i fully supported mlb's league wide retirement of his #42 and i still think baseball should do more to honor jackie and his legacy.

Jackie played basketball, football, track and baseball at UCLA and was all-conference in all 4. His weakest sport was baseball and he made the HOF. That goes to show you how good these black players were even though they were locked out and left out.
