I don't think Enron has anything to do with his enthusiasm. He has been that way ever since coming to Chgo & WGN. He's just a weather mega-freak.

He has had a lot of worry over the last few years with his brother. a big deal Enron guy who is now going to jail for a very long time.
Maybe it has made him much more involved in weather than he would normally have been.

Because he is the weather god of the Chicago area. He just gets really anxious about weather, especially bad weather.
