I'm listening to 'Caterpillar' now, I have all of their albums and admittadly some of the songs sound depressing but the majority of them are upbeat.
I really don't understand why people associate The Cure with depression?
For the fact their music helped me get through depression!!

Because Robert Smith sings like Morrissey, that glum, monotonous tone. The music is usually cheerful, but his voice gives it a darker edge. I do like some of their stuff, like Lullabye, Friday I'm In Love, and Why Can't I Be You.

I think people mostly make that decision based on the fact that some of them look a bit gothy and other people say it, so "it must be true".

I agree with you, some of their music is very downbeat, sad and possibly depressing but they have so many wonderfully happy songs too, it balances out.

I'd be more inclined to class them as bipolar than depressing, if we're classifying music as mental illnesses. :)

Faith and Pornography are very dull, miserable records. Pornography was made in the wake of Iain Curtis's suicide, and in the process of making Pornography Smith launched himself into a self-consciously depressed mode of thinking.

The later Cure records, which you refer to, are much lighter in tone, and witty, and indeed a different cupt of tea.

spend time with in basic terms her. carry her right into a room which could be in basic terms the two certainly one of yours and the kitten isn't allowed in. play together with her on my own and puppy right here and supply fairly some interest. do it a pair cases an afternoon. that could desire to cheer her up. i'm particular shes in basic terms feeling like your changing her with the help of having a kitten.

Because of Robert Smith's tone of voice in songs such as "Lullaby", and the lack of variation in the rhythm or tempo of some of their songs.

They are such a bore......I don't know how you can listen to them at all......same old beat......and soooo monotone.....it's not even hypnotic......just a real drag.........music should not be such a drag....you know..........someone gave me one of their cd's years ago........I traded it in......want to listen to some music while you are depressed? Listen to Nina Simone or Billie Holiday.....these songs have meaning......how about Jane Oliver's song: Beautiful Sadness.........at least these songs are deep and yes gloomy, but really soulful.....get cured and give up "The Cure".
