Don't understand it fully but it is related to oestrogen levels in the body - women have higher levels and this enhances their sense of smell. It's to do with choosing a partner and recognising pheromones. Males with a complementary immune system smell better to a woman, as this increases the chances of having a healthy baby.

I think you have confused keener sense of smell with keener sense of hearing. Look at all the wine tasters and perfume graders that are men. I think sense of smell may be equal, on average

because in the olden days when we all lived in caves. women would have needed a keener sense of smell to cook and stuff. as like men can run faster as they went out and hunted the food.

They don't! It's a myth. We just did a three-week study on senses between the sexes in my college psych class. Men had better success in identifying aromas while blindfolded!! The reason woment think their sense of smell is better is only because they care more about stuff like perfume and how the house smells and the spend more time in the kitchen cooking. But when it comes down to olfactory efficiency, men are more adept.
This stemd from way back in our DNA, when men were the hunter/gatherers and had to be able to detect prey. I

So they don't burn the cooking ----- just kidding. Maybe something in evolution, maybe the early human males did not need a good sense of smell when out hunting and slaying, just good sight, strong muscles and good perception skills so they could throw a spear at a moving target.

in earlier human evolution and in some species still females can exclude males because the smell they give off carries some sign of disease or genetic defect , my dog would not let one near her , it was beautiful , but had diabetes !!!

I don't know, but it's frightening. My sister is like a bloodhound when it comes to scent. She should hire herself out to people tracking down escaped convicts!
