why would a husband & wife sell their home to wife.?

They couldn't. They could 'quit-claim deed' it, which gives ownership exclusively to the wife. Not sure why, but if the husband files bankruptcy individualy, the house wouldn't be included. There are different reasons, and this is only one of them.
