G.M. 2.5 (4cyl) the alt. is over heating. Can any one tell me why this is happening? It reads 14.69
at the alt &14.60 at the batt. This is the 3rd. one in the car, they get red hot, you can not touch it !! It gets that hot!
PLEASE any help would be great!!

Sounds like it is working just like it is supposed to. You expect to be able to put your hand on the alternator, when the engine it is bolted to is 200 plus degrees? Here, is some help, it is charging, so leave it alone, it is normal.

It sounds like the belt is too tight and is pulling the armature of the alternator to one side so that the bearings are being unusually loaded and are being overheated.take a look at the edges of the belt that drives the alternator and see if it shows signs of glazing "SHINY" if it does have the belt replaced and the tension set properly.

sounds like a wiring problem, it is charging correctly. does it stay hot even after the engine is cooled down or does the battery go dead??? but if its getting that hot then recheck everything mechanical ( adjustments and such ).

try different brand and dont over tighten belt
