The one thing none of the others gave you is this. The music you find for free on Limewire, Bearshare or other services are limited. You may not be able to find the songs you really want for free, and if you do, it may be a pirated version.... so be careful.
This is due to the tyrannical state of the RIAA. Must music you can download for free are those that are no longer in license.
Meaning no one owns the rights to the music anymore: example "This Old Man" which is the tune you hear for the annoying opening to the Purple Dinosaur, Barney. (Yes, the Barney song is not an original song... but neither is the tune for the Star Spangled Banner).

RAPIDSHARED.ORG - its a free, simple to use with many files (not just music) It's also VERY fast because it isn't reliant on other users upload speeds, they use their own servers.

SOULSEEK - slsknet.org - Peer2Peer Client - It has pretty much all the music you can think of. The downside is the waiting and the possiblity of slower download speeds.

If u have LimeWire, you can download songs from all over and then putting them in your own playlist to burn onto a cd. You are just getting songs from others who are sharing their music. Check to see if your computer will take like: mp3 higher thanT1, dsl/modem, things like that.

Try allcoolmusic.com. I registered there and downloaded the rocket mp3 player that they have and I can search almost any song, movie, or images and download them for free. you only have to give your e-mail.
