It would be equivalent to the current Real Madrid midfield of Emerson and Mahmadou Diarra or the current Chelsea midfield of Makelele and Essien, two primarily defensive midfielders. Whether or not it would work is still unclear, but on paper it would definitely have stabilized the Man United team and perhaps even won them the league or the Champions League, for that matter.
