If you had 78% of the people disagreeing with you and you were a political animal wouldn't you change course? Nonetheless, Bush is just spouting off in order to influence the elections but it won't work.
He is incapable of admitting mistakes and too stubborn to change course.

He changed his mind because "Stay the Course" is just starting to sound stupid. He doesn't plan to do anything different. Just giving things a different name makes people feel better. Like the "Interrogation Bill." How would we react to it if it were called the "Torture Bill". Whats funny, is if the President did set a time table for departure, then it would no longer be "Cut and Run." No matter what the situation in Iraq was, the Republicans would simply put up a "Mission Accomplished" banner and split and the Bush supporters would say "What? We didn't cut and run. We came in took care of the WMDs, won the war on terrorism and left the Iraqis with Democracy."

To win support. Much like other presidents, he is losing support rapidly, if he had any. The difference is, he's done too many of the things they say he has to just brush it off.

when he said stay the cousre he met to not leave or pull out. When he said he was changing the cousre of the war he meant that he was shifting strategies. did you actually listen to the live speeches or just hear this stuff off the news?

He has nothing to gain from a change other than the possibility of getting into trouble for acting without sufficient truth

I'm pretty sure I heard him say that the original slogan was "stay on the course" referring to all his golf buddies in the GOP.

I thought you were against US being in Iraq?

I could understand the criticism from Americans who want the US to continue to aid Iraq democracy, but from you?

Don't you think it's hypocritical to criticize him for being there and then criticize him for talking about leaving?

To try and save his skin, but as usual he's left it too late. Still he got his war so he'll be remembered in histoery as all US presidents like to be.
