I keep getting error messages telling me that my antivirus program is either not current or it's OFF.

You didn't say which one you have. Go to the Programs section of your START menu and look for McAfee or Norton Anti-virus. Open that program, and it should show you a status page.

There is probably an OPTIONS section, where you can attempt to ENABLE it. If it does not enable, then you probably have a virus that is preventing that. Restart the computer into SAFE MODE (use F8 during the start sequence) and get into your Anti-virus program again and run a full scan.

If it says "Expired", that does not mean that it is NOT active. That is the update subscription. I recommend that you go to a STORE and buy the CD of a new version. That way, you have the disk. It might be on sale, and even might be cheaper then the on-line method. Uninstall the old version, reboot, then install from the new CD.

Good luck

Your have made your question very difficult, because you fail to say what is the name of the antivirus program that you have in your system. If you installed the program it has to be there.

Even if the program was purchased one year ago and now they are telling you that it has expired or you can no longer receive updates. Almost all of these companies want you to pay an annual fee just for updates when you paid for the original purchase.

Go to start=run, type in c://program files, click on browser, open program files, and look for the name of your antivirus program. You can open it from there if the file is listed.

Or you can go to start=run-=check serch files, and type in the name of the program and your system will scan and bring up the program if it is in your system.

Look in your add/remove and see if you can find the program. If you do, it is obvious that it is either junk like Nortons or it is just not working or has expired.

Remove the program if this is the case.

Here is an excellent free program that I use an is absolute state of the art technology with a realtime background scanner that really works excellent. http://www.avast.com (They are out of Prague). You can download their free home use personal version. The corporate version is the same they just make corporate pay. They will ask you to give them your email address, because they will send you a free key that is good for one year. After the one year you will have to ask them for another key.

I use this program an I have never had one virus in over nine years.

All Anti Virus Vendors alert on a test virus called EICAR.

Down load it here, if it downloads, your virus scanner is not
working, if it catches it, it is.

Go to the bottom of the page and down eicar.com
