It crawls out swiftly, has many legs and my friends call it a silverfish.

Yes, it's a silverfish :)
Its classification is:
Domain Eukarya (if you care ;))
Kingdom Animalia
Phylum Arthropoda
Order Thysanura
Family Lepismatidae
Genus Lepisma
and I assume species Lepisma domestica (Lepisma has a number of other species and I'm no entomologist)
BTW, "many legs" is exactly six, as in all insects ;) I had them in my bathroom and carefully counted the legs :P

To some previous answerers, the creature does seem to be or have been classified into a taxon called Zygentoma, at least I saw that at palaeos.com, but AFAIK the order is Thysanura.
