with both my kids....now 8 yrsold and 8 months old, i never bought into the Dreft infant detergent crap...To me it is a money making thing...I washed my kids clothes with mine when they were newborns and they never got a rash. How many other people did this? or just used infant detergent???

Mine is 6 months old and we were given Dreft as a gift, but I haven't even used half of one of the bottles. We always wash his stuff with ours and always have. Besides, if people are really going to get anal about the whole washing in the dreft because otherwise they baby will get a rash, they need to realize that their clothes need to be washed in it too. Afterall, your baby spends a lot of time being held and cuddled, so it would wind up being the same effect as if you had washed their clothes with yours anyway.

With my first one (almost 13 years ago), I bought Dreft too. That lasted about 6 months and then I got tired of buying two different kinds so I started washing her clothes with out detergent and it was all okay. She never got a rash from the detergent. After having my second and third kids, I washed their clothes with our detergent. They just like to let moms think they need to buy separate detergent for the babies. Of course some babies need special detergent and that is okay then. Sam

Some babies have sensitive skin. Why find out with a rash if you can prevent it from the beginning. I used dreft on both of my kids until they were 1. Now I just use ALL free and clear because my husband has sensitive skin and everything else gives him a rash. Not everyone's kids are going to be like your kids.

I wouldn't say that its completely a gimmick or a ripoff. I am sure some babies are fine with regular detergent, but there are also babies that aren't. Mine isn't, we have always had to use baby or phosphate free detergent or he would get a rash. We even had to start washing our shirts in dreft or he would get a rash on his face from laying on our shirts.

Personally, I use Bio-Kleen Laundry Detergent for me and my son's laundry. I do wash my son's laundry seperate from my laundry. This laundry detergent isn't suppost to have all the chemicals and stuff that the other kind has in it. I also really like the smell of the detergent. I think that it smells more natural then some of the other detergents out there.

I thought so too, until both my girls got rashes. I had to wash thier clothes and our shirts in Dreft or Ivory Snow because just us holding them on our clothes would cause them to break out. I thought the dr was crazy but when I started using the 'fancy' stuff, thier skin cleared up and would break out everytime I would try to switch back.

I use a lot of unscented products, because I don't care for scents myself. Instead of using dreft all of the time, sometimes I just use detergents that are dye free or unscented...like ALL or Tide.

I have three kids, and NEVER used baby detergent. I just wash their clothes in my own...and my oldest was a preemie, too. We've never had an issue. In fact, I've heard it recommended that you NOT use baby detergenst because they have an ingredient that coats the clothes and makes them less fire resistant and more likely to burn faster and easier.

We always used regular detergent but we did pay a little bit more for the unsented, because the foster baby we had would like get choked up with the sents.

I agree. I bought dreft one time when my oldest was born. i didn't even use it twice before I started to use regular tide. I actually think the rest of the dreft is still in my laundry room.
