I usually am too individualist because I can't stand people wanting to take advantage of me, and I'm afraid of them turning me out like it happenned before, so I never go to the meetings, etc, just keep the relationships nice fut superficial, try to be generous but no more

you have to trust people and give them the benefit of the doubt until they do something for you not to trust them. it's going to be a lonely life unless you learn to trust people.

well, you do have to learn to trust people. Trust is a key component to any given relationship. But a really good idea to avoid people taking advantage of you is to make them wait before you give your full self to them. All bad guys have one thing in common, they don't to wait to be able to take advantage of you, they want things now. But any good hearted guy will wait a long time before he gets to see the full you. Guys who can wait are worth your time and will never take advantage of you.

I think you're doing the right thing instinctively. There are a lot of people who aren't trustworthy. People must earn your trust, so I think you're right to be very self-protective.
