i'm from australia,..here illegally ,..cant afford child support. I'm in arrears by about 7 thousand,..until my immigration status has been resolved,...what can i do,..i wantr to see my kids,..but dont want to go to jail for being unable to pay child support

Go home.
Get a job.
Pay for the children you fathered.

Well you are supporting yourself, aren't you?
If you don't pay the child support, sooner or later the court will order you jailed for contempt. At that time, your identity & status will come to the attention of the INS & you will be deported & barred from re-entry for at least ten years. Then you can visit your kids via e-mail from Sydney.

Take a lawyer with you. Take court results from the first time you went , when they made the mistake. Take a letter from the boss from the place where you lost that job. In it, if he will, have him state why you were fired. Take proof of your good job now and proof that you are paying child support now. Dress nice, well groomed, be polite, don't lose your temper. Because he does not inforce Federal laws, that is not his jurisdiction. He can order that you are suppose to work, that can mean you should get a legal visa to work, you should return to your own nation and work
Your illegal status is not his concern, his concern is the best interest of the child

because the family court does not step on the department of immigration boundires, so they do not care for your residency status, legal or not, it's common for such rulings to come into conflict with another government agencies rules, and that's how you end up with damn if you do damn if you don'r situtations like the one you face. relax, just drink a Foster's , have a Vegamite sandwich and throw a shrimp on the barbie.

It will be collected sometime. Send them something, for your own good. Whatever you can will look better in court, than nothing.
You don't stand to win here, not at the present or in the future when your kids are grown. And they grow too fast, trust me
