When mixing your mud add a few good squirts of dawn soap it makes it slick out easier. Also to speed up the process use quick set for first coat and regular mud for finish coat, dont mix more than you can work with. crank up the heat and or turn on some fans it will dry faster. The less sanding the better so keep the mud thin you can alway add more but sanding is a bear.

It's actually a fairly simple process. Mix the joint compound so that it is smooth and works easily, apply a thin coat to the joint with a trowel, apply joint tape over the first thin layer of mud and then a second, slightly heavier layer of mud over the taped joint. Let it dry, sand it off smooth. If you're looking for good quality, nice looking joints, where you really can't tell where the joint is when you're finished, then take your time and do it right. If you're looking for speed, then the trick of the trade is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Good luck
