Almost everyone gets the day off work. It's in the middle of summertime, so it's warm and sunny. You get up late, take a swim in the pool, maybe go to a patriotic parade in your town. Then you go home and cook all sorts of picnic foods and have your family and friends over to your house to eat, drink and have fun all day. The fare includes hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, macaroni salad, Jell-o salad, soda, beer and potato chips. In the afternoon, people sometimes play board games or sports games such as badminton, volleyball or any other game that a group can play in the backyard. That night, you go watch a fireworks display in your town, sitting on folding chairs or a beach blanket saying, "Oooh! Aaah!" You come home and shoot off your own rockets as well, and sparklers, too. It's great! Everyone is so festive and life just feels different and better on the Fourth of July.

Just in case you didn't know Independence day is July 4th. Since Independence day is in the summer the kids don't have to go to school. For the most part everyone has off from work...unless you work at a mall or gas station or some place that your boss doesn't close the shop. If it falls on a Monday or Friday a lot of people where I live go to the beach or make a small vacation out of it. In our community we always have a carnival and the last day us usually July 4th. On that day they have a wonderful fireworks display. There are always nuts around my community that try to set their own off. My husband is one of those nuts. It scares me every year. Some families have cook outs. I know my one neighbor used to try to get the first red tomato for July 4th. Some families get together...like this year I had my father in law over and we had hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill. We had corn on the cob. My sister in law set up a volley ball net an then the ball went into our pool so often we gave up on the valley ball. So that is the scoop of what we do. We have the day off to shop, go to carnivals, cook outs, and see fireworks. Hope that explains it.

There are lots of things to do...A tradition independence day celebration usually involves a parade, a barbeque/picnic, and fireworks in the evening. Sometimes there are concerts of patriotic music and other events. It is a floating holiday and if it falls on a weekend you get friday or monday off. Any American holiday is an excuse to party and businesses like to have a sale. You can do whatever you like, but that is what most people do.

We celebrate our independence from England in 1776., Kids are on summer vacation and we adults get the day off from work. We go to parades and carnivals and sometimes the beach. Set off fireworks and go to parties where we all drink too much.

Usually there isn't any actual celebratory event like christmas. But we do get out for school and usually for work too. Mostly Americans party and drink and give very little credit to the actual people and bloody struggle that gave us independence. Generally Americans bastardize the event with alcohol. Its sad.

Well, that is the day my youngest sister was killed so my family mourns her death. I try to get to the fireworks shows but my heart is never really in that any more. The funny thing is, I probably one of the most patriotic people you will ever meet. I try to bbq or something though that I knew she loved.

In India, it is a national holiday. Coincidentally, it is the day we were freed from your people. LOL
We sing our national anthem, school-kids assemble to remember the great lives that were sacrificed to attain independence and miniature national flags are distributed everywhere.
