Yes it's OK, but don't do anything you wouldn't want a friend to see you doing. If you go by yourself you may end up being hit on by a lot of guys (or not, depending on the night and who happens to be there). When I first went to a gay bar I ended up talking to a bartender and was told that if you come in the door alone and leave with someone you will be labeled slutty and an easy one-night stand and all you will attract from then on are slutty people who only want a one-night stand. It is not that I have never had any one-night stands, but by taking that advice at the beginning I was never labelled slutty. When I first started going out to the bars by myself I found that I attracted the people who were looking for Mr. Right and not only those looking for Mr. Right Now.

Sure it's OK! When I first came out, I was in the same situation you're in....no gay friends to go with me. I went to the only gay bar in town that I knew about, had a good time, met new people and even made a couple of friends too. Go and have fun!

Looking in both sides of the picture, sure you are by yourself and there you could find people that are just like you and start to communicate and you have a friend. In the other hand, some will tease you like a freshmen getting pick on by the seniors. That's my opinion

It's definitely okay, as alot of gay people go through that experience. You need to be careful as there are alot of potential predators out there and although it can sometimes be flattering to get the attention the consequences can be far reaching. So, yeah go out and have fun, but always have your wits about you - trust me I'm speaking from experience!

extremely cool.....gives you a chance to look at all the possibilities a gay bar has to offer and maybe meet that special someone you have been waiting for.....

I am wondering this too, I think its ok. I just moved back to my home state of Virginia and I don't ave any glbt friends here like I did in Illinois so I think I have to ite the bullet and go out on my own. We can do it!

Sure. Everyone has a "beginning" and all aren't fortunate enough to have someone to share it with.
