I know quite a bit on the real estate tip, living in NY but from London and dont have a social security number yet even though i've been married over a year to an american. Does anyone know how i could or should work ???

Of course im just waiting to get legal, it takes a lil while, but in the meantime, i need to be able to work... its crazy.

Get legal. Your contract to receive your commission on a million dollar condo won't be enforceable otherwise, and in NY, unenforceable usually means unpaid.

edit: If your husband got licensed as a real estate agent, which might take less time than a work visa, you might do the contracts in his name. Then at least the commission would be enforceable.

I would imagine that it would be difficult to work anywhere reputable in the United States without a Social Security number. If you are married to an American, you should be able to apply at least for a "right to work" one at your local Social Security office.
