I do it every time. My daughter will tell the waitress, "No my mom doesn't want that! I'm going to order for her." And then she'll order the nice good expensive food. But I still feel bad because of the money thing. So I'll help out with the bill. But she won't let me.

lol. If it's with my family, we are all comfortable enough with each other that I can order whatever I want. Now if it is with just an acquaintance, I usually browse the menu and try to find something for two that is in the mid range that we would both like, so we are both happy.

I usually eat like a bird, so it isn't an issue. But if I want a steak or the like, I have no qualms asking them first. I then base my decision on their body language, not so much their verbal reaction.
