Ok I'm lookin for a new computer. Specifically a laptop because I need the mobility. My current computer is ok for most things. The fan has an issue that makes it really loud, the battery is shot, and its almost 4 years old. What I want is a computer that will run Excel, Word, etc., but still have a kick butt media setup. I don't want to spend a lot of money cuz I'm graduating in May and moving across the country. Any suggestions on brands, whether I should even bother with it, or some good setups would be appreciated.

Dell has some good ones.
Inspiron and Latitudes are the best as far as your question is concerned. You can consult with them on the phone, as their customer service is very good.

Secondly, you could go to EBay and look for some good slightly used laptops. You will always find some good laptops over there.

Thirdly, look for the laptops that are refurbished. These laptops are great and are just as new in most cases.

Lastly, good luck with buying a new laptop and you graduation.

Acer are very strong in mid-market computers. Asus and Lenovo seem to be just as good value. Look out for a used up-market one, e.g. Apple or Vaio.
