Rap music is an expression of self and does not necessarily have to with sex, guns, drugs, and lies. Just because the songs you hear on the radio talks about all the no,nos does not mean rap is a shallow music. Rap is poetry. It expresses more emotion than any other forms of music. Many rap artist's songs are heart-felt and emotional while some rap about getting high. We can't blame them. They make music for us. If no one buys their records I doubt 50 Cent would still be taking girls to the candy shop.

I love rap music. I am from Houston TX and in the last couple of years we have blown up. What they rap about is just a sign of the times just like it was in the 70's 80's and 90's (the beats have got a lot better) my opinion. I like good music so I am not downing any other type I like almost all kinds. For the longest time I didn't even buy a rock CD because there wasn't s)hit that was good. I am glad to say rock is coming back in a good way. Rap is going strong so it's good for me because I love to buy CD's.

A lot of the mainstream stuff today is crap. Little hacks like fifty cent and Bow-Wow need to be shut down. The old school rap that was the s*it, and it had some meaning to it. Gangsta rap marked the ending of an era of civil rights and contributed to the racial discrimination stereotyping, and general oppression of African Americans and continues to do so to this day. It gave white people a new excuse to stereotype blacks and also provided a new "reason" for white Americans to hate them. It glorified black on black violence, and advocated drug use and ignorance in general. It made genocide on smaller scale acceptable in the eyes and minds of impressionable black youth, and essentially continued the guiding principles of the James Lynch doctrines and the idea that in order to keep black people enslaved and under the thumb of whites, they needed to be in constant turmoil and at each others throats to prevent unity and promote ignorance of the fact while forcing them to look up to their oppressors. Gangsta rap needs to be abolished completely or African Americans will never get what they've earned in this country, they'll always be enslaved by one concept or another, and white America will always have the upper hand when it comes to social standards and 'justice' as it is called because the black community will never stand together.

There are only a couple of "rap" songs that I like I guess you could call them rap and that would be "Cowboy" by kid rock and there was another one years ago. The rest of this so called music is just plain garbage. It is demeaning and degrading. Why is it that these new age singers feel they have to "sing" about what they want to do to a woman and it isn't even easy to understand. Call me old fashioned but when I was growing up AC/DC was a group my parents couldn't understand and would not let me listen to them. Today's music I won't allow my kids to listen to in my car or in my home. When they are at their own home or in their own cars if they want to listen to it find and dandy but not around me.

my opinion is that the new rap is stoopid and ignorant. dont get me wrong i might be a metalhead but im a big fan of public enemy and n.w.a. but its just that the new rap is to ignorant and some of the new rappers arent even real emcees rapping about the things that they have never seen like i can go buy my self a dime and a shotgun for 50 bucks right around the corner if i felt like it. (thats how bad the "segundo barrio" is)

i love rap too. just not 'popular' rap that gets on MTV. if you are sick of that nonsense without meaning, go for underground rap. guess what, not all rap is crap. i live in australia. hip-hop is huge here, its all meaningful, no one raps about how rich they are, i mean i'm poor, i dont want to hear that right? great rap does exist. if youre in the US go for some underground, or else get the number 1 aussie group, called Hilltop Hoods. Best album is The Calling.
