Irish even if I'm really Scottish, because aren't the Scottish people and Irish people descended from the same people? And my ancestors had and Irish sounding name. I just don't know if I should go around saying I'm Irish.

You should say that you're Scottish. It is insultive to both groups if you say that you're Irish and you are not. They will both view you as denying your ancestory.

Personally, it doesn't matter. I'm both Scottish and Irish, and proud of both sides. My great-grandmother was Irish, borne in England, but had a Scottish name. Nice mix huh?

Down with the British and French!

Everyone descended from the same people, why not call yourself Swahili?

You are from the country or region you was born in, legally. But you could be from were you feel more conformable with. You have to live with it and no body else. Good luck.
