I just spent $1200 to have a toilet installed. I live in the Seattle area. The toilet itself cost $400. I have a feeling I was ripped off.
Keep in mind the cost of living for the area (pretty high), and the fact that they delivered the toilet, installed it, and disposed of my old one. Also, the new toilet they installed began to leak due to hairline fractures in the model. The next day, the tech came out within 90 minutes, diagnosed the problem, got another new toilet and installed it for free (it was under warranty). My dad thinks I was totally ripped off.
Does anyone else know what an average cost would be to have the work done, keeping in mind I live near a city where the cost of living is pretty high.
Thanks.

Ps Just for clarification, the final $1200 INCLUDED the cost of the $400 toilet. It was not added on.

I don't know if that's too much for your area, but that's definitely WAY more than I would be willing to lay out! Installing a toilet is a relatively simple do-it-yourself job.

Too much...That's a project you should try yourself....All it takes is shutting off the water, disconnecting the piping, install a wax donut and reconnect....Should take no more than 20 minutes.
If you want it installed, then my guess would be in the 300-400 dollar range....You're hiring a professional plumber and time is money. He has to arrive at your home, install, and leave....
$1200 is way too much.........Even in Seattle............
As far as the leak, that has nothing to do with it. He should have checked before he started....A bubble test....like putting an inner tube in a tub of water.

Keeping in mind you live in a high cost of living area and also noting that the company promptly came out and REPLACED the cracked new one and honored your warranty, I would quit whining to others about what you paid. First of all, the time to find out HOW MUCH something is going to be is BEFORE you contract for it to be done. Thats when you have the best chance of comparing prices, picking someone else, checking credentials, and negoiating a better price with the company you plan on using (the old....."gee XYZ will do it for $100 less, will you match their price?" is more likely to work BEFORE you give them your money or credit card. After? Forget about it.....its done and done. Next time, ASK FIRST! I had one installed by a visiting friend and all is cost me was a kiss. I still asked before I had him do it though......and he got the kiss and I made him dinner! Whoo whoo......But $1200 for a toliet to be installed on top of the $400? Not on my watch....not in my lifetime.....

I know where I live you can by a toilet for as little as $80 or as much as $450 but that is just preference any plumber or handyman can install a toilet in an hour or less average labor rate is probably $70hr maybe as much as a 4hr min. charge so at most for your situatation $700

You could have paid nothing!! If, you had gone to Lowe's or Home Depot and they would have shown you there in the store how to do it and give you booklets and or a vhs/dvd to DIY. Oh by the way, Yes you got snookered on the labor!!

WAY TOO MUCH FOR THE JOB. IT WOULD BE EASY FOR JOE HOMEOWNER TO DO OR CALL A HANDYMAN GUY AND ASK A PRICE. IF FACT, DO IT RIGHT NOW-CALL AND ASK SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DIRECTORY IN ONE OF THOSE FREE NEWSPAPERS IN THE RACK AT THE SUPERMARKET. AT THAT PRICE I'D FEEL LIKE HE SHOULD HAVE DONE MY INCOME TAXES AND AND UPDATED MY WILL BESIDES THE ONE TOILET.
