This is the last of the 'cult series' as I suppose it has become. And it isn't a question per se, more of a series of statements.

Well, I wasn't completely honest with those that answered (and if you have no idea what I am refering to, just go view my past questions). You see, my question had nothing to do with religion.

I am writing a thesis, actually, and needed Guinea pigs. And where better to find them then on here?

It WAS an experiment, no lie there. And the whole religion-as-a-cult thing was brought up by my grandmother a few years ago. I DID try out many religions but now believe that there IS a god, but none that are worshipped by orginised religion. That was all true.

It was what my experiment was about that was a lie. I am writing a thesis on how people today are unwilling to accept what questions life as they know it. I could have easily asked a question regarding the existance of aliens, questioning the government. However, I knew religion would upset many more

people.

Because, whether it be religion, culture, government, or education, we are all trained to think one way. Ever hear those jokes where a scientist, artist, and priest are all asked to grant three wishes, or something similar? Each will look at a situation differently. Try to get them to think out of their realm and...well, good luck.

We have never been comfortable accepting something that changes everything. Look at when Darwin proposed the evolution theory! Everyone thought he was mad!

And it was the same here. I asked people to question religion as they know it. (and think, each religion as it started out WAS considered a cult). People became defensive, offensive, lashing out at me, insulting me, insulting my way of thinking. Some called me childish, others accused me of bigotry. Some agreed with me. One even compared it to communism. But it all proves my point:

We refuse to accept what would rock the boat. We are all this way. Even, on some level, so am I.

So hate me if you want. Or answer just to get two points. Tell me I am an idiot or whatever. I needed you all in order to write my thesis. (College IS coming up, you know). For those that answered, thank you. If I insulted anyone, sorry.

For those of you that have no idea what I am talking about and are intersted, my questions that I am refering to are:

"Are you a member of a cult and not know it?"

and

"Did you answer my cult question?"

Sorry I cant hate you as you are trying to make people think about things that really matter. The fact that you told a lie is not important ,what is important is that you stimulated those out there to react in a generally positive way.
However next time I suggest you work out a question without needing to lie but please keep us thinking.

I don't think posting a question here will give you decent data for a thesis. How can you ensure that the responses you are getting are true. Whilst your research question may be a valid one I think you need to do some serious thinking about the validity of your research methods!

I posted a wrestling question that i knew would get some emotionally unstable folks ranting at me. You should have seen these answers! Why is it that so many people take other peoples opinions as if they were a personal attack? I even had one guy call me white trash hee-hee!
