I am sure you are aware of this already, but I feel the need to remind you; there are more "non-Republicans" than Republicans! By far.

Conservatives are a decided minority in the United States.

Liberty is the ability to choose what you wish to do with your life, to go where you wish to go, to live where you wish to live, to start businesses, to associate with whomever you choose, to worship as you like, or not worship at all. Liberty is the freedom to pursue whatever makes you happy. But the most important characteristic of Liberty is being able to think and believe whatever you wish AND being able to express those thoughts and beliefs without censure or any other repercussions.

There are, of course, limitations to liberty. Your freedoms extend only to the point where they infringe on the rights of others to practice their liberty. For example, you may feel that liberty is being able to play music as loudly as you like. Your neighbor may wish to enjoy the freedom to relax in his backyard and enjoy some peace and quiet. This is where the government must step in and establish reasonable limitations on such practices which interfere with the full enjoyment of liberty.

The bottom line is that liberty allows me to live my life in a way that you may not accept or approve of and you (or the government) may do nothing about it unless my actions directly interfere with your liberties. In other words, stay the hell out of my house, my library records. my internet activities, my telephone conversations, my business transactions, my mailbox, and my life...unless I invite you in.

Good luck in November!

Ha Ha!

liberty is not a liberal or conservative thing, or a democrat/republican thing, its the condition of being able to pursue the type of life you see fit so long as it doesnt infringe on the rights of others.

there are loopholes on both sides of the arguments. as you've already seen, you tried to ask a question to a specified group of people, and the other side pelted your question with attacks. to me, liberty includes being able to say what i want on the phone, and the government cant tap my lines. but, the current republican party decided they have the right to override our personal liberties without warrants. thats an infringement of the liberty of privacy, but most republicans dont seem to have an issue with this right now.

according to that way of thinking, liberty is something for only those that agree with a certain way of thinking, even though we all live by "liberty and justice FOR ALL".

that doesnt mean that the democrat side is fool proof either. they tend to go way too soft on criminals, and many have a big problem with guns and want more gun control. this seems to contradict human nature, in many ways. the evolution of survival/fighting/ weaponry/war is what caused guns to be created, and theres not any turning back. proper education with guns, and effective criminal persecution would help lessen gun violence, not spending tax payer dollars to rehab a felon. if someone else infringes on my families liberties by killing someone close to me, his rights are forfeited, and i feel that i should have the liberty of deciding how he's punished, he shouldnt go to jail and end up released early for good behavior. i'm pretty sure i'd want him dead, and i'd want to be the guy that throws the switch.

so, theres differing opinions, and these are just a few examples. rather than actually present points, you'll probably get answers that just berate the other side. but, everyone has the liberty of "freedom of speech"......

i'm not really a democrat, but i'm certainly a non republican.

it boils down to this...the right to be left alone...no one nosing around to try to find out what i'm reading, what i'm watching, to whom i'm talking, with whom i'm sleeping, how i'm raising my kids, how i'm spending my money, if (or how) i worship, basically how i'm living my life, as long as i'm not harming anyone-i don't want to be searched, wire-tapped, investigated, harassed, or scrutinized...and i don't believe my government has the right to do any of those things without probable cause...i don't want to hear that old 'if you don't have anything to hide, you shouldn't object' horse hockey, either...this is supposed to be the land of the free ...
