What does Nietzsche mean by God is dead? Which philosopher; Kierkegaard, Kafka, Camus, Hesse, Heidegger, offer the most interesting persuasive defense against Nietzshe's point of view? Any reason why?

Could anyone please give me pointers?

Presumably Nietsche meant that a belief in god is now obsolete, as we can explain the universe quite well without invoking supernatural forces. Read Bertrand Russell or Karl Popper for further views.

nietzsche didnt say that he didnt believe in god, but that it was of no value to debate whether or not there was a god. he was trying to say that there was no longer any use for god. at the time he wrote that, people were becoming increasingly dependant on science and looked toward reason rather than religion. as a result, people began to lose faith in god, essentially killing the idea. sure they believed in god, but people didnt let it dictate their lives. now that reason is in the picture, there is no use for god, so why waste our time with him.

later, nietzsche went on to say how religion was a terrible idea, rooted in vengence and suffering, but when he first wrote the words 'god is dead' all he was trying to say was that people dont need god as much, so theyve discarded the idea.

When Friedrich said that God was Dead, he was making a qualitative judgement. What he meant is that humans are so civilized that they no longer desire the hardships of a Godly existence. We are not willing to do what it takes to live in submission to God. In short, God is no longer an issue of faith.
It became an issue of ignorance or indifference.

Nietzsche was wise enough to know God was a myth created by tribes people. A myth Created by tribes people who believed in things that would literally SHOCK you and I today.

Nietzsche knew that if you somehow allowed any modern day christian to live in the middle east during the years the bible was actually being written, that experience alone would have them throw in the towel. Culture shock is an understatement

They would realize this myth was created by ancient human beings, ancient tribes whose way of life and cultural beliefs are unfathomable to us in the modern day. Actually repulsive in ways. Once science came along it shattered the myths of Gods

Its funny to me how we don't take ancient culture seriously in these modern times...Yet many of us still live by ancient religions created by these ancient cultures!
